Can you tell us a bit about who you are and who you help?

I love helping parents feel confident to tackle their children's sleep issues, at any age! I had three reflux and milk protein intolerant babies, so I have a special love for helping those parents get through those dark days.

What drove you to make the shift from speech pathologist to pediatric sleep consultant?

I worked in home health for 11 years, and was burnt out. You know that saying “Do what you love, and never work a day in your life?” I had helped friends and family for years with their kids’ sleep and feeding, and noticed how much it filled me up and gave me so much joy. I started looking into certification programs, and here we are! I still maintain my SLP license, and will do some private practice on the side.

What’s one common challenge you see parents facing around sleep?

Being overwhelmed with too many opinions and too much information out there.

What would you tell expecting parents who are preparing for nights with a newborn?

Figure out a system that works for your family. There are a million ways to navigate nights: taking shifts every few hours, alternating nights on duty, hiring night nurses, bringing in grandparents or friends to help out—all of them can work! The key is to continue to check in with one another and pivot if needed. Communication is huge in those early days.

How would you suggest setting up a bedtime routine for babies? For toddlers?

Children thrive off routines and love predictability. To set one up, think about what you want and/or need to achieve every night (dinner, bath, brush teeth, books, etc) and implement a routine. Again, this can be whatever works for your family!

What are your top three tips for getting through these tougher sleep periods?

First, find someone you trust and who aligns with you, take their advice, and be consistent. Constantly changing your approach only makes it harder. Second, be patient—change can take some time. Third, confidence is key!

What’s one piece of advice you wish more parents heard?

If it’s working for you, there’s no need to change it.
