Meet Anna, our April Birthday Kid of the Month

Meet Anna, our April Birthday Kid of the Month

Meet one-year-old Anna, our April birthday kid of the month! Hear more from her mom, Katie, about how they celebrated, what makes Anna laugh, and what parenthood has taught Katie as Anna grows.

How are you celebrating Anna’s birthday? Did you have a theme?
Our party theme is “One Is Fun” because Anna is…fun! I’ve always loved classic birthday nostalgia and wanted the focus to be on celebrating our sweet girl.

What is your favorite part of this age?
Every day she does something new. We are really starting to see her personality come out. She loves mimicking people—talking, coughing, and tongue-clicking.

What are Anna’s current interests or favorite things?
Anna loves taking toys out of baskets and shaking toys that make noise. Her favorite things, though, are the things she isn’t supposed to have—remotes, things on the floor, and the dog’s water bowl.

How would you describe your baby’s personality?
Extremely happy! Anna loves to smile and make others smile. She never fails to make friends with strangers when we go out. She also loves to show off her crazy side with screeching, clapping, waving, and “so bigs!”

What makes them laugh the hardest?
Tickles and coming home to see her doggie, Lulu. Lulu never fails to make her smile, and Anna just adores her. She also loves to open her mouth for kisses.

What is a habit or quirk that you never want to forget?
Anna’s first word was “Dada,” but she recently added “Mama” to her vocabulary. Now, if you ask her to say “Dada,” she will repeat “Mama” over and over. She also says “nini” for dogs because she’s always heard us say “nice nice” when she pet them.

What has parenthood taught you?
So much! Parenthood has made us more carefree because our energy has shifted to Anna’s best interests. It’s also caused us to reflect on our own childhoods and appreciate our parents in a different way. So much time and effort went into making each of our childhood memories so special, and we’re forever grateful. We hope to give Anna those same memories.

What is some of your best parenting advice?
Be flexible and do what you need to survive! Social media can be very helpful, but the amount of information can become overwhelming, and there’s no single “right” way to parent. Trust yourself, make changes when you need to, and take each day as it comes.
