Magnetic Me Partners With Today Is A Good Day To Bring Innovative Clothing Solutions To Philadelphia-Area Nicu Patients
Patented Magnetic Technology Used to Create Custom Tops for NICU Babies, Provides Better Access for Treatment, Improved Care
New York, NY – Parents whose babies are being treated in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Philadelphia-area hospitals may soon see their little one in an outfit designed specifically to make things easier for both baby and their care providers.
Magnetic Me, creator of innovative magnetic apparel, has partnered with Today is a Good Day, a Philadelphia-based non-profit providing personal and financial support for families with babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Through the collaborative partnership, the two organizations designed a custom kimono-style top for NICU patients that’s now being delivered to area hospitals.
The kimono top features Magnetic Me’s patented magnetic technology and was specially crafted to improve access for healthcare providers to some of their smallest and most vulnerable patients. Unlike solid, zippered or many other styles of infant clothing, the shirt’s design provides easy access for the wires and tubes that are common for NICU babies.
"The magnets made care time easier and quicker. The material is soft and silky. Everyone, including staff and family members, said that the prints were adorable,” said one local provider. The design also allows for easy “kangaroo care,” a form of skin-to-skin contact that’s proven helpful in the development of all babies, especially those in the NICU.
“When doctors and nurses first shared with us how helpful our clothing can be for these teeny patients, we knew we had to get involved and bring this solution to more families,” said Lauren Levy, co-founder of Magnetic Me. “Our mission is to make lives easier, so we’re thrilled to partner with an amazing organization like Today is a Good Day to do that for families throughout their network of hospital partners.”
These “milestone” shirts also have special significance, marking a major achievement in patients’ path to growing and gaining strength. Babies born prematurely or with significant health complications often are unable to wear clothing until they’ve reached a certain weight and size. The shirts, which can be worn by children weighing as little as four pounds, mark a powerful and emotional milestone in their journey to graduating from the NICU.
“Speaking from personal experience, the NICU journey can be isolating and lonely,” said Martha Sharkey, founder and CEO of Today is a Good Day. “Receiving a beautiful and meaningful gift, such as the Magnetic Me kimono top, is incredibly thoughtful. We’re excited to launch this important partnership.”
Today is a Good Day has already started delivering the milestone outfits to Philadelphia-area hospitals. Learn more about this and the additional help they’re providing to families navigating the NICU by visiting www.todayisagoodday.org and following @TodayisaGoodDayPA on social media.

About Today is a Good Day
Today is a Good Day was founded in 2014 by Martha and her husband Paul Sharkey after their own personal experience navigating the NICU rollercoaster with their twin daughters Mary and Claire. After a traumatic birth at Abington Hospital at only 23 weeks gestation, daughter Mary was not able to recover from a devastating infection. This organization was formed in memory of her and in honor of her identical twin sister, Claire, who beat many odds to come home and thrive after a grave prognosis. To date, Today is a Good Day has provided care packages (including journals, knitted bonding squares, books, water bottles, bracelets, and gift cards) to over 4,000 families at Abington Hospital, Crozer Chester Medical Center, Einstein Montgomery and Philadelphia Hospitals, Delaware County Memorial Hospital, Virtua, Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, Children’s of Wisconsin, Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House, and upon request. In addition to the care packages, Today is a Good Day hosts inspirational and supportive Listening Sessions at several of the hospitals, provides families with financial support for added expenses (such as utility bills, car seats, transportation expenses, pack-n-plays, and lodging), and manages a website to provide the online community with resources.
