Magnetic Me Partners With Today Is A Good Day To Bring Innovative Clothing Solutions To Philadelphia-Area Nicu Patients

Patented Magnetic Technology Used to Create Custom Tops for NICU Babies, Provides Better Access for Treatment, Improved Care

New York, NY – Parents whose babies are being treated in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Philadelphia-area hospitals may soon see their little one in an outfit designed specifically to make things easier for both baby and their care providers.

Magnetic Me, creator of innovative magnetic apparel, has partnered with Today is a Good Day, a Philadelphia-based non-profit providing personal and financial support for families with babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Through the collaborative partnership, the two organizations designed a custom kimono-style top for NICU patients that’s now being delivered to area hospitals.

The kimono top features Magnetic Me’s patented magnetic technology and was specially crafted to improve access for healthcare providers to some of their smallest and most vulnerable patients. Unlike solid, zippered or many other styles of infant clothing, the shirt’s design provides easy access for the wires and tubes that are common for NICU babies.

"The magnets made care time easier and quicker. The material is soft and silky. Everyone, including staff and family members, said that the prints were adorable,” said one local provider. The design also allows for easy “kangaroo care,” a form of skin-to-skin contact that’s proven helpful in the development of all babies, especially those in the NICU.

These “milestone” shirts also have special significance, marking a major achievement in patients’ path to growing and gaining strength. Babies born prematurely or with significant health complications often are unable to wear clothing until they’ve reached a certain weight and size. The shirts, which can be worn by children weighing as little as four pounds, mark a powerful and emotional milestone in their journey to graduating from the NICU.
