Noah's Story: A Journey of Love, Joy, and Inclusion

At Magnetic Me, we believe in celebrating every child and embracing the unique qualities that make them special. One of our amazing little models, Noah, has been lighting up our photoshoots with his bright smile and infectious energy. We had the privilege of speaking with his mom, Yami Johnson, about her journey raising a child with Down syndrome, the joys and lessons she has experienced, and what she hopes the world understands about children like Noah.

Can you share a little about your journey as a mom to a child with Down Syndrome?

My journey as a mom to a child with Down syndrome has been truly special. I've experienced many ups and downs, but overall, there have been more highs than lows. This journey has brought me so much joy and a deep, unconditional love that I never expected to feel.

What are some of the most unexpected joys you’ve experienced?

One of the unexpected joys of having a child with Down syndrome has been seeing the world in a new way. I've learned to appreciate that everyone is different, making each person special. It's important to love people for who they are without judging or treating them differently because of their condition. This perspective has changed my life and deepened my understanding of love and acceptance.

What type of support from family, friends, or the community has been most helpful for you?

The biggest support I've received on this journey has come from social media. It's amazing how many people from around the world have followed our story and found ways to relate or gain information. I've received so many kind comments expressing their gratitude for sharing our experiences. It feels wonderful to connect with others who understand our journey.

What do you wish more people understood about children with Down Syndrome?

I want people to know that children with Down syndrome are just like any other kids. They each have their unique personalities and interests. While they might take a little longer to accomplish certain things, they can thrive and reach their full potential with love and support—just like any child. Every child is capable of amazing things!

What are some of your child’s favorite activities or hobbies?

One of Noah's favorite activities is swimming; he absolutely loves it! He also enjoys modeling, which really excites him. There's something about being in front of the lights and having a camera that brings him so much joy. I love seeing him in his element, doing what he enjoys most. It's wonderful to watch him shine!

How has your child changed the way you see the world?

Before Noah came along, I believed many misconceptions about people with Down syndrome, but I've learned how wrong those ideas can be. I've realized that people with Down syndrome are just like everyone else and can achieve amazing things if given the chance. Inclusion is so important, and I believe the more inclusivity there is, the more these individuals will thrive.
