this one's for the strong women!

March is Women's History Month and we're celebrating with women's stories. Starting on International Women's Day March 8th, we're asking women to complete the sentence "I am strong because...".

I've been fighting the fact that I battled postpartum depression because I didn't want to believe that I didn't feel anything but pure joy when Charlie was born.

I'm in a much better headspace now and can look back on my experience more candidly. The first few months were brutal. I think it's important to admit it to yourself because no doctor's survey, no friend checking in, no spousal support is going to work if you're not honest with yourself first. 

The best part about being a woman is how much we're able to endure physically, mentally, and emotionally. We're incredible.

I moved to the USA from Brazil when I turned 21 years old, all alone, no family, and without speaking any English, but somehow I knew what the future had in store for me would be great.

Motherhood has taught me how to be vulnerable, surrender, accept and try again on the next day. Every day is a whole new road and we can always rise and try again. 

The most rewarding thing about being a mom is pure joy! My son can make any moment special: going potty, a walk in the neighborhood, playing with a new toy, discovering the world around him.

One full year into a plethora of daily pivots [managing virtual learning 👦🏼, managing a studio, protecting a business, IVF>pregnancy>👶🏼, raising littles, and simply doing life], there were many moments I just wanted to shut down, retreat. But my people matter, our impact matters, and the hats we wear are a gift worth holding.

To all of the mamas out there frozen in too many responsibilities amidst this years’ crazy unknown—challenge yourself to breathe deeply and accept that you were made for exactly this moment. Big leaps 💪.

@amirahcastillo  |  I am strong because...  even when my twins were taken straight to the NICU and nursery (for low blood sugar) immediately at birth, I managed to fight for them and stay positive so that when we were reunited I could be the best mom that I could be for them.
