More (Fatherhood) Moments
Becoming a dad means you're challenged and rewarded in ways you never could have imagined. Your capacity for love grows beyond your wildest dreams and there are so many amazing ways to share that love with your little one(s).
This Father's Day, we are celebrating dads everywhere! Meet two of our special magnetic me dads and hear from them what it means to be a dad -- and all the wonderful ways dads share their love.
Meet: Lawrence Scheer
co-founder and CEO at Magnetic Me, husband to Marina and dad of Sam, Rachel, and Benjamin.
Tell us a little bit about your family! Who made you a dad?
I guess the truth is that my wife made me a dad. She totally talked me into it! Basically, she is responsible for many of the good things in my life and fatherhood was a big one.
What’s one of your favorite parts about fatherhood?
My favorite part about fatherhood is there is no diminishing return. There’s room to love each new addition fully. Your capacity to love just keeps growing to accommodate every little blessing. Plus, it's now totally fine to play with all my old, retro toys as long as one of the kids is within like 10 feet of me! Transformers anyone?
Doing anything special this Father’s Day?
This Father’s Day my parents plan to visit us in New York and the family is going out for a meal. In a restaurant... Without masks... We are all fully vaccinated and really looking forward to getting back to enjoying the time together.
Why do you think so many dads love Magnetic Me?
Magnetic Me is somewhere between a simple solution to a messy problem and an awesome gadget that you will actually use. When you suffer from sausage fingers, snaps are just not an option.
What’s one value you’d like to instill in your little one?
To be bold, to be kind and to help where you can.
What’s a hope you have for your little ones' future?
I just want them to be happy and successful 😊
Tell us you’re a parent to a newborn without telling us you’re a parent to a newborn.
I’ve been playing a lot of pattycakes lately.
Any favorite dad "wins" to share?
Every night when I get home and the kids tackle me.
Meet: Derek Liu
Engineer, husband to Jason and dad to Nathan
(@aguynamedderek)
Tell us a little bit about your family! Who made you a dad?
Jason and I met about 4 years ago and we got married in November 2017. I’m a semiconductor engineer and Jason is an executive director of facility planning and development. One of the things we both wanted before we met was to raise our own child. So one year after we got married, we started the IVF process and in November 2020, our son was born by our lovely surrogate.
What’s one of your favorite parts about fatherhood?
One of our favorite parts is to be able to see our baby grow one day at a time! We cherish all the baby milestones he has reached, and look forward eagerly to those that are yet to come.
Doing anything special this Father’s Day?
we are actually in the process of moving to California as Jason has accepted an offer from UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. So this Father’s Day will be lots of packing and cleaning!
What’s one value you’d like to instill in your little one?
Be the one you’ve always been, proudly.
What’s a hope you have for your little one’s future (or just for your little one)?
We wish him to be braver, stronger and smarter than us.
We believe love is love and families are created in all kinds of beautiful ways! Do you have any recommendations for children’s books that discuss family & love inclusivity?
“The Adventures of Addie Underwater: Every Family is Built with Love”. Has to be this one!
Tell us you’re a parent to a newborn without telling us you’re a parent to a newborn.
White patches of milk on my shoulder? 🤣
What’s a funny dad fail you've experienced?
The little guy refused to eat mashed avocado, so we ended up having guacamole that night 🤭
And a favorite dad win?
The little guy finally ate his mashed avocado - just add formula and voila!
To all the dads out there: Happy Father's Day!
